Former Raiders defensive assistant coach Randy Hanson broke his silence on Friday about an incident from two months ago that has drawn the attention of the Napa, Calif., police department and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Hanson told Yahoo! Sports there was tension between him and Raiders head coach Tom Cable since January, when owner Al Davis hired Hanson before offering Cable the opportunity to stay on as head coach. Cable met with members of the Oakland secondary, who had worked closely with Hanson, after a poor practice on Aug. 4 and told Hanson the players identified him as the problem. The next morning, Hanson alleged that Cable attacked him, fracturing his jaw.
"From my blindside, Tom Cable threw me from my chair and into a piece of furniture that a lamp sat upon," Hanson told Yahoo!. "He was screaming, 'I’ll f——- kill you! I’ll f——- kill you!’ And I have no reason to believe he wouldn’t have killed me if they hadn’t pulled him away.
"If my head would’ve hit a different way, I might be dead right now."
Cable has publicly denied attacking Hanson, but he could face a suspension for violating the league's personal-conduct policy, depending on the decision of Napa County District Attorney Gary Lieberstein, who could charge Cable with a felony after reviewing the results of a police investigation of the matter.
