TE Owen Daniels appears on his way to a fine season in the final year of his contract. Already he has as many TD catches (two) as he did a season ago, and his field-stretching ability remains intact. Daniels, one of the league’s faster tight ends, hauled in a career-long 44-yard reception vs. Oakland in Week Four. “You have a bunch of guys who can make plays,” WR Andre Johnson told reporters afterward. “We ran one play where I ran a post route, and when I ran the route, I just busted out laughing because ‘O.D.’ was just running across the field wide open.” Daniels and the Texans could not come to an agreement on a contract extension before the season began, and talks about a new deal are not expected to resume until after the season. But it’s clear the Texans would like to keep Daniels, considering how well he fits in Gary Kubiak’s offense, a scheme in which he has thrived.
