They're faster, they're quicker, and yes, they're smaller. When the Jaguars overhauled their offensive roster during the offseason, they did so with the intention of ushering in a fresh approach from a scheme that grew stale and ineffective. For years, the Jags had been characterized as a power-running team that also had big, burly receivers split wide. Not so much anymore. Starting in a draft that netted them a trio of speedier wideouts — most critically jitterbug Mike Thomas — the Jags purged themselves of the north-south mentality, and adopted a more horizontal scheme that requires players to pick up yards in space. David Garrard also has done his part. The once-burly quarterback shed nearly 25 pounds during the offseason, and the club has green-lighted him to make more plays outside the pocket. He's on pace to run for 432 yards, which would be 110 more yards than his career high for a season.
