The loss of NT Jamal Williams to a torn triceps after just one game comes as a huge blow to the Chargers' defense, as the 348-pound veteran was the team's best run-stuffing presence inside. Coupled with an injury to NT Travis Johnson, the Bolts' defensive front is a depleted group less than a month into the season. Although 33-year-old Alfonso Boone was signed this week to add depth, we hear that the club is banking on a pair of young linemen to be difference makers up front. First-year player Ogemdi Nwagbuo is getting the initial crack at replacing Williams at nose tackle, and fourth-round rookie Vaughn Martin will rotate between tackle and end. The two had ups and downs in San Diego's Week Two meeting with the Ravens, but the coaching staff was pleased with them on the whole. For the Chargers' "D" to be successful, this duo will need to prevent running backs from darting through the line and reaching the second level.
