The Bengals cut 21 players on Saturday, including LB Darryl Blackstock and S Marvin White. They also parted ways with their three seventh-round picks: WR Freddie Brown, DT Clinton McDonald and FB Fui Vakapuna.
Blackstock started four games a season ago for Cincinnati but has primarily been a reserve throughout his previous four NFL seasons. White logged 13 starts in two seasons for the Bengals, but the signing of ex-Cowboy Roy Williams forced him out of the starting lineup.
Of the seventh-round selections, Vakapuna was in strongest contention for a key role, but the Bengals will go with Jeremi Johnson at fullback.
The Bengals also released OG Andrew Crummey, DE Chris Harrington, TE Darius Hill, DT Ventrell Jenkins, RB James Johnson, TE Kolomona Kapanui, S Corey Lynch, LB Jim Maxwell, DT Clinton McDonald, DT Langston Moore, CB Rico Murray, OT Augustus Parrish, FB Chris Pressley, WR Maurice Purify, OG Jason Shirley, LB Dan Skuta and PK Sam Swank.
The Bengals also placed WR Antonio Chatman on injured reserve with an ankle injury.
The club has a roster exemption for rookie OT Andre Smith until Sept. 14, meaning he does not count against the 53-player roster limit.
