Already handicapped by the absence of Pro Bowl OLT Walter Jones, the Seahawks’ offensive line got some more bad news with the disclosure by head coach Jim Mora that starting C Chris Spencer had suffered a torn muscle in his left thigh in the team’s preseason victory over the Broncos. In a Monday-morning interview with Seattle radio station KJR, Mora indicated that Spencer, who missed five games last season due to injury and ended the season on injured reserve, could miss the first couple of regular-season games.

In Spencer’s absence, third-year veteran Steve Vallos, who did a serviceable job replacing Spencer last season, and versatile second-round draft pick Max Unger will compete for the starting center job.
