The Saints will bring in veteran free-agent LB Derrick Brooks for a workout, head coach Sean Payton announced Tuesday.
Brooks, an 11-time Pro Bowler, was released by the Buccaneers in the offseason and has been looking to join another team ever since. LB Derek Smith will also work out for Saints coaches. Smith has made stops with the 49ers, Chargers and Dolphins.
The club is looking for another backup linebacker to fill in for Mark Simoneau, who will be out for several weeks after tearing his triceps during a scrimmage Saturday.

Brooks starred at Washington High School in Pensacola. The Bears need to find themselves a new middle linebacker, double quick time since their star Brian Urlacher is essentially done for the season, and rumor is that they are looking at Derrick Brooks. Derrick Brooks is a good pick – he's known as a very competent linebacker and is in fact a Super Bowl winner with his former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. (Tampa Bay triumphed over the Oakland Raiders in 2003 – dubbed the "Pirate Bowl.") Brooks was released by his team after the 2008 season, in which they failed to reach the playoffs.
