The following quotes are from NFL scouts, coaches and front-office personnel, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

• "(Steelers QB) Ben Roethlisberger is not a well-liked teammate. He's arrogant and lazy. It's not a nice mixture in a steel city known for its toughness."

• "(Brett Favre) must not have been offered enough money (to sign with Minnesota). He may still come out at the end of August. Don't think Minnesota could not revisit the situation down the line. He is older than some of the coordinators in Minnesota. He does not want to be in a camp. It's not over yet."

• "You've already begun to see signs of why (49ers rookie WR) Michael Crabtree slid in this draft. He's very immature. Everyone knew that. He's a young kid. He's got a lot to learn about what it means to be a pro. (San Francisco) better keep him in line or it is going to start spiraling out of control fast."

• "(Former Eagles defensive coordinator) Jim Johnson gave us hell. He'd come at you from so many different angles and always bring the safeties and corners. He was the best. Everyone took something from his game plans. If there is a place in the Hall (of Fame) for coordinators, he belongs in it."

• "(Browns RS) Josh Cribbs needs to shut up and play. I'm tired of hearing about his contract. You signed it. Live with it. He was loving the signing bonus after he took the deal. Now he makes a Pro Bowl, and he wants a new contract. It drives me nuts. If he's got a problem with it, he should take it up with his agent. He should have had clauses included for Pro Bowls and starts. If it's anyone's fault (why he is unhappy), it's his own."

• "Brandon Marshall had one good season. He's another guy that needs to get his act together. Quit whining and play the game."

• "I'm not sure anyone has the (guts) to sign Michael Vick — he can't play for six weeks anyway. He could help us, but I don't see any rush to go sign him. ... He could help a lot of teams in specialty packages. The 'Wildcat' was built for him."

• "(Michael) Vick was not consistent enough in the pocket. Jim Mora (Jr.) tried to make him a quarterback instead of letting him run around and do what he did best. Seattle has an ailing quarterback (Matt Hasselbeck) with a bad back who probably won't make it past five games. Seneca Wallace won't take you where you want to go. Vick could bring another dimension to Seattle. ... It does not matter who signs him — you know it is not going to be pretty the first couple weeks, but if you can ride through it for a week or two, it could pay off. And if Vick gets a chance and starts hot, (his past) all goes away."

• "You want to know the real reason the spread offense keeps proliferating in college and the pros? ... You can't find enough good offensive linemen to compete in college football anymore. That's why the spread is taking off. It makes the game a lot easier for the big boys."

• "I coached with (Eagles new defensive coordinator) Sean McDermott. He is one of the most disciplined guys I know. He is smart as a whip. He was one of those guys coming out of college who worked out for scouts because he loved it. He just wanted to give it a shot. He was very grounded. He's very organized. He gets up at 4 in the morning not to just be there, but to document his work, study the game and learn. He's a very impressive guy."

Yeah I'm sure Rothlisberger's teammates really hated him when he delivered the game winning drive in the Super Bowl. I know for a fact that Ben is very close to Heath Miller and Brett Keisel. Also he has the respect of his receivers and offensive line, so who cares if he's not chummy with the entire 53 man roster.

What a crock re: Big Ben!! I am sure Whiz is the source since they didn't get along when he was in Pittsburgh. Roethlisberger seems really arrogant when he is asked whether he belongs in the top echelon of QB's with Peyton and Brady and demurs. He gets sacked 45 times a year for three straight years and never blames his O Line. Hardly misses any games despite major motorcycle accident and getting beat up almost every week. Sounds arrogant and lazy to me!

Hey zulater what about Super Bowl XL where Gentle Ben wet his pants and went 9/21 with 2 picks and no TDs? You think that performance went over well? And the whole motorcycle thing showed he didn't care enough about the team to restrain himself from taking crazy risks. Now the rape charge. Plus if you have looked at any recent photos he appears obese so apparently he doesn't take care of himself during the off-season. Basically a total mope that was put in a perfect situation. He should thank the football gods every day of his life.

gbrok - Ben showed up in shape for camp. He's a huge dude - 6'5" and does look bloated on occasion in the off season. But the pictures of him with a sleeveless t-shirt show that he is in shape. About that alleged rape - a female co-worker filed an affidavit in the case on Friday stating that the alleged victim bragged to her about sleeping with Ben and want to have a "little Rothlisberger" and wanted the women to go to Pittsburgh with her and "accidently" bump into Ben.

Hey Gbrok, how many second year quarterbacks have led their teams to the Super Bowl to start with? You realize the Steelers didn't get to SB XL by invitation. Roethlisberger played brilliantly on the road for 4 straight playoff games including making a game saving tackle against the Colts in order for the Steelers to advance through the AFC playoffs. As far as Ben showing up out of shape, I haven't seen anything to indicate that Tomlin is upset with his conditioning. Also he's performing quite well at practice, so I really don't see any problems in that regard. Last you really are an idiot if you are going to try to defame Ben with the flimsy civil suit that's been brought against him. That suit has about as much chance of advancing as the Browns do of making the Super Bowl. lol

"Basically a total mope that was put in a perfect situation." http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/08/10/roethlisberger-could-become-the-king-of-comebacks/ Yeah Ben's really a "mope". Idiot.

This gossip is just plain wrong. In fact the entire defense admire his fortitude. They keep it close, Ben wins in the end. Ask Aaron Smith waht he thinks about Ben. The Oline loves him. Who is left, special teamers? Pro Football weekly just plain sucks bye all!
