Eight prospects have entered the supplemental draft to be held at 1 p.m. ET July 16, but only one — Kentucky's Jeremy Jarmon — figures to be drafted early.
"I wish he were taller and more stout at the point," an NFL evaluator said, "but he is a big body that plays with some strength at the point. I'd be shocked if he got out of the third (round)."
He is expected to fit best as a 4-3 base defensive end with upside potential in an aggressive 3-4 front such as that of the Steelers, Ravens, Jets or 49ers.
Kansas State WR-RS Deon Murphy could warrant late interest as a returner.
Former Florida State WR Corey Surrency, who clocked a 40-time in the mid-4.6s at 6-foot-4¼ and a heavy 226 pounds when he worked out for teams, does not figure to be drafted, in part for character concerns, nor does Central Michigan OG-C Joe McMahon, Southern Miss WR Torris Magee, Western Kentucky LB Blake Boyd, Texas Tech DE McKinner Dixon or Tennessee DB Demetrice Morley.
Any team that exercises a pick in the seven-round supplemental draft will lose its pick in the corresponding round of the April 2010 draft. Priority for the supplemental draft will be determined by a weighted lottery, which will be conducted the morning of the draft.
Draft Audibles
- "(Oregon CB) Walter Thurmond has great speed and athletic ability. He's just not strong or physical, and he does not always play to his speed. He'll struggle in press coverage."
- "(Georgia DT) Geno Atkins is an enigma. He's strong, but he's not smart and he does not play hard all the time. When he wants to be, he is a man, but you wish he didn't turn it on and off so much. That's the M.O. of a lot of those Georgia defensive linemen through the years."
- "(TCU DE) Jerry Hughes does not have the length you want rushing the passer. He's barely 6-foot-1 and he does not play the run well yet. He needs to get stronger."
- "I love (Oklahoma OT) Trent Williams. He's very good in pass protection and as a run blocker. He can play wherever you want him to."
