Indications are the Falcons won’t be changing their style on offense much, despite the addition of Pro Bowl TE Tony Gonzalez. Offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey had great success devising a scheme built around the power running of RB Michael Turner, and while Gonzalez’s talents as a pass-catching tight end give the attack an extra dimension to exploit, which could be difficult to stop as defenses try to stay glued to him and WR Roddy White, Atlanta isn’t likely to alter its approach. Gonzalez will be asked to run-block much more than he was with the Chiefs.

“Tony will help our offense in a number of ways,” Mularkey told the Falcons’ team website at the end of OTAs. “One thing he’s going to do is that he’s a productive blocker and that’s important in our offense. … As successful as he’s been as a receiver, he’s a good blocker, too, and he really doesn’t get the credit that he should.”
