After a long courtship, the Saints have agreed to terms with S Darren Sharper, reports indicate. Sharper, 33, had been rumored to be weighing an offer from the team for much of the offseason.
The 13-year veteran fills a major need for the Saints' defense, which will be run by new coordinator Gregg Williams. Sharper has started 16 games in each of the past three seasons. He had four interceptions or more each year from 2000-07, but only had one last season.
The Cardinals announced Wednesday that they have re-signed UFA DE Bertrand Berry to a one-year contract for an undisclosed amount. Berry played in 14 regular-season games in 2008 with four starts and registered a team-high five sacks, in addition to 31 tackles, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Berry also appeared in all four of Arizona's playoff games, starting three of them, registering two sacks and a fumble recovery.
In his five seasons in Arizona, Berry has collected 34 sacks, nine forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and 157 tackles (102 solos) Berry, Chike Okeafor, Travis LaBoy and Clark Haggans, who was re-signed Tuesday, combined to give the Cardinals a very solid OLB rotation last season when they were all healthy.
The Titans have agreed to terms with former Panthers UFA WR-RS Mark Jones, the club announced Wednesday.
Jones, 28, ranked seventh in the NFL in in punt-return average last season (11.4 yards). He also averaged 24.0 yards on kickoffs. He is expected to help the Titans fill the returners' roles vacated by Chris Carr, who signed with Baltimore.
The 5-9, 185-pound Jones is entering his sixth NFL season.
The Browns signed UFA RB Noah Herron on Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed.
Herron, 26, spent four games with the Buccaneers in 2008 but was inactive for each contest. He has rushed 85 times for 273 yards and three touchdowns and caught 29 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns in 23 career games.
